The Last Of Us season two is soon going to be making its epic debut with the release dates finally confirmed for UK and US fans.
Based on the hit PlayStation video game of the same name, The Last Of Us proved to be a hit when the Sky and HBO drama first came out two years ago.
Tasked with escorting teenager Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic world, Joel (Pedro Pascal) deals with his own demons while also protecting her from the “infected”.
Given the huge response that the show got, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when The Last Of Us was given the green light for a second season in January 2023, before the third episode even aired.
News regarding when fans could expect the award-winning show to return had been scarce but now an official release date has been announced.
TV lovers can now get Sky TV, Netflix and Discovery+ for £15 per month with the new Essential TV bundle.
This delivers live and on-demand TV without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Day of the Jackal and the upcoming second season of Squid Game.
The Last Of Us season two is going to premiere on Sunday, April 13, on HBO and its streamer Max for US fans.
UK fans will then be treated to the same first episode the following day, Monday, April 14, on Sky Atlantic and NOW.
After this, a single episode is expected to be released weekly with the grand finale expected to be released on Sunday, May 25 in the US, and Monday, May 26, in the UK.
Season two, which is going to be based on the second video game in the franchise, The Last Of Us: Part II, will be a little shorter than the first with seven rather than nine episodes.
And much like the video game, season two is going to start with a five-year time jump as “Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
New cast members have been teased including Apple Cider Vinegar’s Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Madam Web’s Isabela Merced as Dina and Schitt’s Creek star Catherine O’Hara in an undisclosed role.
Talking about what to expect, co-writer and executive producer Craig Mazin told Entertainment Weekly: “Each episode is like a meal. You can have a light dinner or you can go to a 12-course French restaurant.
“We have seven episodes. They are high-calorie, dense episodes.
“ If you consider action and drama and scope to be the things that create an epic nature, each one of these episodes packs quite a wallop. You will not be bored.”
The Last of Us season two is going to premiere on Sunday, April 13, on HBO, and Monday, April 14, on Sky Atlantic.
