A wine expert and TikTok favourite has found a delightfully delicious white wine that could be the perfect alternative to your regular bottle of Pinot Grigio.
Hailing mostly from Spain’s Rías Baixas region, Albariño is crisp, zesty and ridiculously refreshing. In a recent video the bespectacled wine enthusiast tried a budget bottle and a more pricey alternative, happily declaring that they were both “worth the wedge.”
Tom Gilbey pitted the Baron Amarillo Rías Baixas Albariño currently available to buy at Aldi for £8.99, against a £25 bottle of the Pazo de Senorans, Coleccion 2020. Looking for hints of “peaches, nectarines and a dollop of cream” the connoisseur was left very impressed by both bottles.

Sharing the taste test with his 204,000 followers on TikTok, Tom took a nice big swig of the Aldi wine. He explained: “I’m looking for peaches, a little bit of white flour. Lovely pure fruit,” before exclaiming that this budget-friendly bottle is indeed “A sh*tt*ing good wine.”
Perfect for a spot of casual sipping, a good Albariñoa wine serves up pure, fresh, fruit-forward goodness. Pinot Grigio on the other hand is a lighter, crisper and drier tipple with notes of green apple, pear, citrus and white flowers.
Unsurprisingly, Tom was also a big fan of the more expensive bottle, describing it as a “very complete, beautiful wine” that has the depth and character you would expect for that price.
Still delighted with his Aldi find, the wine expert concludes: “So for Albarino, if you want peaches, nectarines, white flowers, you can get it for well under 10 quid.”
