The packing rule that will save you from checking in luggage

If you’re jetting off on a foreign escapade soon, chances are you’ll be looking to save pennies wherever possible. One of the best ways to do this is by only packing hand luggage if you can.

However, with airlines cutting back on luggage allowances, this can prove tricky. Fear not, Shoezone has shared its top tips for travelling light and squeezing as much into that allowance as you can.

The first tip is to roll your clothes instead of folding them. While folding might be the default method for packing, rolling your clothes can be a far more space-efficient way to cram more into your suitcase.

Your clothes might get a bit creased in the process, but just hang them up in your hotel wardrobe once you arrive. Bulky items like puffer jackets will puff up unless rolled tightly, so pack wisely.

Another way to squeeze more into your suitcase is to wear your biggest and bulkiest items onto the flight – including shoes. This will free up more room in your suitcase for extra pairs, reports the Express.

These additional pairs should also be packed heel to toe so they can slot together neatly in your case and take up minimal space. Remember to cover them to keep surrounding items clean.

When you’re pondering how to pack, ensure you put your shoes at the bottom of your case. This balances out your luggage by placing lighter items on top.

A balanced suitcase can make your journey much smoother, as you won’t be wrestling with an unstable case as you dash through the airport.

The last piece of advice is to be smart about what you pack. Don’t waste precious suitcase space on clothes you won’t wear – a few adaptable outfits will allow you to mix and match with fewer items, while leaving you plenty of room to bring back some holiday mementos.
