This Morning fans rage as guest explains ‘skinny jabs’ for children in ‘dangerous’ chat

This Morning fans were furious at one particular guest who promoted skinny injections for children.

On Monday morning, hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary interviewed paediatrician Doctor Muriel Meso about the drugs, such as Wegovy. They were used for Type 2 Diabetes, but recently for weight loss. According to Diabetes UK, Wegovy is designed to reduce appetite, so you eat less.

It mimics the action of a gut hormone called GLP-1, which is released after eating, and it slows down how quickly food is digested. During the interview, Dr Meso discussed how it works as well as the impact it has on children. She said: “It’s been used for children with Type 2 Diabetes for longer, but recently been using for 12 to 18-year-olds for weight loss.

“This is under specialist teams to make sure it’s done in a safe way and the weight loss is sustained and they are able to carry this on after they come off these jabs.” The doctor went on to confirm the children have to have Type 2 diabetes in most clinics in order to have the injection.

However, in clinics for excessive weight loss, obese children who are between 12 and 18 can be presceribed the injection with an expert team to council the patients. Furthermore, the patients’ BMI have to be above the 95th percentile and they must weigh over 60 kilograms.

Doctor Meso added that it is all done on a ‘case by case basis’. Patients need to show they already tried using other measures to lose weight before they’re able to use the jabs. Despite the extensive requirements needed, viewers were still unimpressed and rushed to X/ Twitter to slam the guest.

“Get this lunatic off my TV!! Giving skinny jabs to kids – ffs! #ThisMorning,” one user said while another posted: “Honestly a healthy diet from weening stage is all they need #thismorning.” Another said: “So giving fat kids skinny jabs? How about they just go out and exercise, play football, run outs, climb trees like we all did as kids.”

“Well #thismorning, the bar was extremely low anyway but you have managed to lower it today. Well done,” one annoyed viewer commented. One said: “Slightly mixed messages what they’re saying here – they’re talking about these jabs being used as a specific treatment of diabetic children who need to urgently lose weight, it’s just the show is normally obsessed with people using it for vanity reasons.”
