Daily US Times: President Trump is basking in the Sunshine State, according to Fox News, emerging from a neck-and-neck battle to win Florida. The victory in the major swing-state nets the incumbent 29 electoral college vote of the 270 he needs to stay in the White House.
Trump’s defenses held strong in a battleground swing-state he captured in the last election and adopted as his new home late last year, despite a stiff challenge from Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
While Joe Biden entered Election Day slightly ahead in Florida, the margin was less than one percentage point, according to RealClearPolitics’ average of polls, and the perennially purple state was seen as a true toss-up.
Florida turned down the Democrats again despite a massive effort in the state, including hundreds of millions of dollars from businessman Mike Bloomberg. Florida is home state for Trump, as he changed this from New York. With the win, President Trump clears the first big hurdle standing between him and re-election – and has shown, at least in this state, that polls giving Biden an advantage are not altogether reliable.
That prognostication came to fruition on Election Day with a back-and-forth battle that saw Trump and Biden trade the lead as votes were tallied.
Earlier this week, Trump’s camp had predicted that he would again come out on top in the Sun Belt state.
Florida broke for Trump in 2016 elections, as part of a dominant showing throughout the battleground states to upset Democratic challenger Hillary Clinton.
