Daily US Times, Seattle: The United States has confirmed the first new mysterious Chinese virus on its territory.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) said a US resident who arrived in Seattle for China had been diagnosed. The virus originated in China and caused panic around the region.

The mysterious Chinese virus has infected 300 people and six have died so far. The Chinese city of Wuhan is the worst affected.

A tour operator said China’s neighbor North Korea closed its border for foreign tourists in the response of the threat.

Young Pioneer Tours, a tour operator based in China and specializes in travel to North Korea. In a statement, the company said North Korea was implementing a temporary ban as a precaution.

The man diagnosed in the US believed to be in his 30s and he returned from Wuhan on 15 January.

In a statement, CDC said: “The patient sought care at a medical facility in the state of Washington, where the patient was treated for the illness.”

“Based on the patient’s travel history and symptoms, healthcare professionals suspected this new coronavirus,” CDC added.

The statement says laboratory testing of a clinical specimen confirmed the diagnosis on 20 January.

The new mysterious coronavirus strain in China reported first in Wuhan in December. It has already spread abroad, with two cases in Thailand and one in Japan.

Asian countries like Bangladesh and India issued alert warning in the airports to protect the virus of further spreading.

Authorities of the Chinese city of Wuhan said 136 new cases had been confirmed over the weekend, and a third person there died from the virus.

One hundred seventy people in the city still in hospitals taking treatments, including nine in critical condition.

Two people who had travelled to Wuhan were treated for pneumonia linked to the virus. A 66-year-old man showed symptoms of the virus after he visited relatives in Wuhan.

China’s National Health Commission earlier warns that close monitoring was needed given that the source, transmission and mutation methods were unknown. But the commission also said it is “still preventable and controllable”.
