Daily US Times: Robert Trump, the younger brother of the US president Doland Trump, has died, the White House has confirmed.
Donald Trump said in a statement on Saturday: “He was not just my brother, he was my best friend.”
On Friday afternoon, the president had visited his brother in hospital in New York o telling reporters: “He’s having a hard time.”
Robert Trump was seriously ill, but it is unclear what he was suffering from, according to US media.
The president said: “It is with [a] heavy heart I share that my wonderful brother, Robert, peacefully passed away tonight.”
“His memory will live on in my heart forever.”
President’s son Eric Trump also paid tribute.
“Robert Trump was an incredible man – strong, kind and loyal to the core,” Eric wrote on Twitter. “He will be deeply missed by our entire family.”
Robert was the youngest of Fred and Mary Anne Trump’s five children. He was born two years after his brother Donald.
He spent much of his career with the family real-estate business, becoming a top executive. However, unlike his brother, he was said not to court publicity and lived semi-retired in New York state.
Recently Robert Trump went to court in a failed bid to stop publication of his niece Mary Trump’s tell-all book about the president, How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man.
Robert spent more than a week in the intensive-care unit of Manhattan’s Mount Sinai Hospital in June, According to the New York Post.
