Victoria state brace for ‘dynamic’ fire threat

2 Min Read

Daily US Times: The Australian state of Victoria declared ”state of disaster’ as forecasters predict “dangerous, dynamic” conditions in a massive bushfire zone.

The state is one of the worst affected states in current bushfire crisis.

1.2 million hectares of land already burnt by the blaze and claimed three lives in Victoria ‍state alone. Thousands of home and millions of hectares of land is destroyed across the country.

The fire killed 26 people so far.

Victoria state authorities said they predict the fire to be greatest on Friday due to hot, volatile weather.

The state’s Premier Daniel Andrews said this is unlikely to see such a massive blaze early in the season, but ”I also make the point: I don’t think we’ve seen as co-ordinated, as effective a response to that unprecedented fire activity as we have seen in these last few weeks.”

However no warnings for New South Wales and South Australia, where fires continue to endanger lives and homes.

The current bushfire crisis is considered the worst in Australia’s history.

Situation in Victoria

Authorities asked people to leave the state’s Alpine and eastern regions, including fire-ravaged East Gippsland, ahead of Friday as the fire possibly ignite new lands.

Authorities feard the fire could merge with NSW’s fire to create a ”mega blaze.”

The forecast says temperature could climb to 41C and accompanied by dry lightning and dangerous winds.

NASA revealed shocking image

One-third of Australia’s Kangaroo Island, a haven for rare wildlife burned by bushfire, NASA satellite image reveals.

Kangaroo Island is in South Australia.

NASA’s Terra satellite captured Kangaroo island’s fire extent on Tuesday. The images clearly show the devastation of fire with brown burn scars and active fires where lush greenery once stood.

NASA called the burning as ‘ecological tragedy’ and estimates 155,000 hectares (600 square miles) of the island has been consumed by fires.
