The White Lotus, the critically acclaimed black comedy drama, has returned to HBO and Sky for its third season, set in Thailand. Created by Mike White, the show continues its popular premise, following a group of holidaymakers at a luxury international hotel and the lives of the resort’s employees.
The show was originally planned as a six-part limited series, but its success led to a second season and a third season renewal in November 2022. Even before the third season aired, a fourth season was already in the works.
In the satirical murder mystery drama’s latest instalment, viewers will be whisked away to the Thai outpost of the hotel chain.
A glittering array of actors will portray the new guests checking into the Thailand resort, including fan favourite Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), who makes a comeback after her stint as a hotel employee in the show’s first season set in Hawaii.
Cult fans tuned in to their streaming devices last night to watch the show, but were shocked by the direction they believe the storyline is taking. Many fans have suggested that an ‘incestuous’ plot may be unfolding.
In the new series, the Ratliff family, including father Timothy (Jason Isaacs), mother Victoria (Parker Posey), daughter Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook), and sons Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) and Lochlan (Sam Nivola), travel to Thailand. Timothy brings the family there so his daughter can interview a monk for her thesis.
As the family settles in, things get awkward between the brothers. Saxon makes strange comments about his sister and shares uncomfortable thoughts with Lochlan, hinting at potential incestuous feelings. Fans were disturbed by the storyline and expressed their frustration on social media.
Saxon and Lochlan are sharing a room, and fans were disturbed when Saxon asked his brother about the type of porn he likes. At one point, Saxon also walked to the bathroom completely nude after mentioning he wouldn’t be able to “je*k off” with his brother in the room.
Fans flocked to X, formerly Twitter, where they slammed the storyline. One user wrote: “Not The White Lotus Season 3 having a incest storyline.” Whilst another added: “What in the incest is going on…” A third penned: “No, they wouldn’t dare go where I’m thinking with his character, would they?” A fourth added: “This sibling vibe is gonna get gross, isn’t it?” And a fifth wrote: “Saxon needs to lower his level of creep factor.” with a meme of a woman saying, ‘He’s creepy.'”
Over the years, the show has garnered numerous accolades, including 15 Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes. Season three consists of eight episodes, with the titles for the first three instalments already released. The titles of the episodes are ‘Same Spirits, New Forms’, ‘Special Treatments’ and ‘The Meaning of Dreams’.
The release schedule for the episodes is as follows: Episode 1 premiered on February 16, with subsequent episodes being released periodically, including February 23, March 2, and continuing up until April 6th.
