New romantic comedy-drama Film Club will be coming to TV screens later this year. The new series is due to be released on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three, with a specific release date yet to be confirmed.
The BBC has released a series of first-look photographs to tease Film Club, which marks the screenwriting debut of actors Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davis.
White Lotus actress Aimee, who is also famed for appearing in Netflix’s Sex Education, also stars in Film Club, taking on the role of Evie. She appears opposite Nabhaan Rizwaan, who stars as Noa, as well as Doctor Foster’s Suranne Jones and Three Girls star Liv Hill.
Completing the cast for Film Club are Adam Long, Arian Nik, Fola Evans Akingbola, as well as co-creator Ralph Davis and Owen Cooper.
The official Film Club synopsis reads: “It’s Friday night. 7pm. Film Club Week 198. Evie hasn’t left the house in six months after a ‘wobble’, and tonight, things are different. Noa’s got big news. A dream job is taking him across the other side of the country, which means that all of this is ending. That reality is hitting.
“That they’re going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends. Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions but this time those emotions might be impossible to ignore…
“As if life weren’t challenging enough already, Evie is going to be navigating this amongst the eccentricity of her family home – living with her fiercely loving single mum Suz, sister Izzie, and handsome boyfriend/sometime man of the house Josh. Film Club is a witty and emotional show about love and family, about whether we should follow our hearts or heads, and being in love with a friend.”
Film Club is produced by Gaumont UK with the support of ZDFneo in Germany. The production team features Stella Merz as a producer and Catherine Morshead as director.
Executive producers are Alison Jackson, Jamie Jackson and Aimee Lou Wood for Gaumont, and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.
The series is co-created and written by Aimee and Ralph, with Anna Jordan joining the writing team for the fourth episode of Film Club.
Film Club will air later this year on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three.
