You could guarantee your perfume lasts all day with this helpful hack.
A quick spray of perfume makes the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, and many of us will have one fragrance that we hold in high regard above all others. Perhaps you’ve even splashed out on an expensive perfume in the hopes that it will last longer and have you smelling divine all day.
But we all know the feeling of realising our fragrance has worn off – sometimes within mere hours of putting it on. According to one perfume expert, however, that could be down to user error, as she says there are some common mistakes people make that stop their scents from lasting as long.
So if you’re thinking of treating yourself to a new perfume to mark National Perfume Day today (February 17), then keep reading to make sure you’ve got all the tips and tricks up your sleeve to guarantee the fragrance lasts all day.
According to a perfume expert named Emelia, many of us are far too conservative when it comes to our fragrances. We use just one spritz on one wrist and then rub our wrists together to transfer the scent, but this isn’t enough, and your perfume will fade quickly.
While you might be conscious of using too much perfume in one go, especially if you’ve splashed out on something expensive and want it to last, Emelia insisted you must use at least three sprays around your body for maximum results.
To start, you want to make sure you’re spraying both wrists – not spritzing one and then rubbing them together.
Emelia said: “You don’t have to go overboard, we don’t need to douse ourselves, but we can use a little bit more than one spray. At least for a daily routine, we’re going to hit one wrist and leave it – don’t rub it. Not because you’re bruising the formula or anything, but just because we can put another spray on the other wrist.”
For the third spray, Emelia said you should go under your shirt and spray once on your chest. This is because the chest radiates heat, which will move the fragrance off of your skin so that people can smell it.
But that’s not all, as there’s actually one other place we should consider adding perfume – our hair. Emelia said that you can often buy a matching hair perfume to your favourite scent, but if you don’t have access to one, then you can use your main perfume as long as you follow some important steps.
You should spray the perfume into your hand first and allow the alcohol to dissipate off of it so that just the fragrant oil remains. Then, scrunch this oil through the ends of your hair. Emelia said this will make your fragrance last longer because your hair isn’t as hot as your skin, so the scent won’t evaporate as quickly.
Commenters on the video were quick to praise the woman for her helpful tips, with many hailing the hair trick as a “game-changer” for lasting fragrance. One person said: “Wait, the spraying in your palm and then rubbing into your hair is so good!” Another added: “You just blew my mind with that hair tip.”
